A Wild Horse named Apache

 As a result of my trips out to visit the wild horse herds in AZ, CO and NM, I am doing a series of small portraits. My goal is to give an intimate glimpse into individual horses and my visual and emotional response to their beauty. The paintings are on cradled wood, so they can be easily hung or placed as freestanding art. Shipping, (with in the continental U.S. is free).

Apache is  a stallion at the Sand Wash Basin, CO.  This summer I watched him dog a band attempting to steal some mares. Although he is a smaller stallion, he took on much larger stallions. I admired his courage and determination as he pursued  his task. This spunky stallion has what it takes to be a wild horse!

Today's wild horse is "Chrome".  I saw Chrome while I was painting at "Greasewood's waterhole",  early one morning. He is a stallion that is often seen alone. His beautiful coat along with near perfect boots are topped off by a mane that has wonderful highlights. What a stunning horse!

This beautiful Buckskin is Bugs, a band stallion at the Sand Wash Basin. To learn more about Bugs, visit the Sand Wash Basin Wild Horses web page. I had the opportunity to watch Bugs and his band on several days this summer. This is one of my favorite bands to paint!

Picasso, the Icon of the Sand Wash Basin

Picasso is one of the horses that I really wanted to  see during my visit to the Sand Wash Basin last month. I was lucky enough to see him and his band on two days. Even though he was well away from the road each time, it was well worth the walk to spend some time with one of the icons of the SWB.
