Dick and Brady

Today, I did a 8x10 painting of Budweiser Clydesdale, Dick and his Dalmatian friend, Brady. The Team went through the Lost Dutchman Parade this morning and were back in their stalls by noon. They were fed, watered and got hosed off. I painted Dick while he was in his stall, and then did a spot check on Brady, to make sure I didn't miss too many. Thanks to the great staff for taking such good care of the Team and being so helpful to me.
"Dick and Brady" is available for $100.00, plus $4.80 shipping

The Budweiser Clydesdales

I had the opportunity to spend some time with the Budweiser Clydesdale's. They are absolutely amazing. Ten came to Arizona for a five day stop and performance. The ages ranged from 4-14 years, with the weight being around 2,200 pounds, and about 18.2 hands high. I painted "Turbo's" portrait while he was in his stall before the performance today. Turbo is 14 years old, was in the lead hitch today, and I have it on good authority, that he loves to eat!

The team that takes care of these horses does a wonderful job. It is easy to see that they are professionals who enjoy the horses and the people who turn out in mass numbers to see the Clydesdale's. Keeping the tradition of the Clydesdale Team alive is well worth the investment!

By the way, these Clydesdale's make my Percheron look small!

Another great day to paint!

It was another beautiful day to trail ride, and to paint en Plein air. This horse is a beauty at 17 hands tall, and she was ready to go. She did not want to stand tied, but wanted to get back out on the trail!

New Mexico Fence Line

"Walking the Fence Line", is a painting about color relationships. It has a cool tone, even the highlights on the dogs are cool. I wanted to see how much I could show, without spelling out every detail in this painting. Even with the small amounts of information, most people are able to tell me what breed the dogs are. Our minds, as well our eyes, delight in having someplace to go in a painting. That is the fun part of having loose brush work.

Budweiser Clydesdale Team

I did this quick study of the Budweiser Clydesdale Team last night. The team will be here at the end of the month. This study is from some photos I took of them last year. I always enjoy seeing them.

Gallop depart!

While painting at the Goldfield Ghost Town, I did a quick portrait of a horse who is in his late 20's. I was told the owner, who is in her 70's had the horse since he was four. I was also told the horse could still move out quite well. I was not disappointed when his owner, got on, did a trot, canter, spun around and slid to a stop. Then, to much hooping she did a gallop depart! What a fun and inspiring morning!
